An employment cost index determines how much the U.S. military pay scale known as“Allowable Rate. The index is determined by analyzing the demand for enlisted troops as well as permanent personnel and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty personnel. After considering these parameters and adjusting the rate in order to produce a figure that will be based on the needs of each group to ensure an adequate workforce. This method is used to create a basic military wage that is then used in each branch.

The U.S army has its own ranking procedure in force. The ranks are established from the rank of First Lieutenant and the upper levels and comprise officers such as Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels and majors. In the army, three levels are classified from the highest to the lowest within the command chain. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale that is utilized in the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and the list goes on. This ranks the people working in different sectors of service in different wings of the army. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  in military units like the Marine Corps will be considered Officers placed in Reserve or Officers Regular. For those who are higher-ranked, they are classified as Specialists or Officers Special. In addition, individuals in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy are classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step in the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this rung is known as the ” Colonel”. As a Colonel, will be a general and will be in charge of your entire army and whole staff. At this level you’ll also earn the most amounts of money per day. At higher levels, are entitled to an increased number of of paid holiday per month.

Pay rises at this point are dependent on the military’s cost index for employment. This is an attempt to keep track of the rate of inflation in living expenses. When an area is characterized by an index that is high, the cost of living is likely to be greater than when the Index is not high. This can result in an increase in the amount of pay paid to military personnel who are highly educated and were promoted and received pay increases similar to those at lower paygrades. Promotions in jobs that are not in their pay grade get no raise.

Officers who hold both a commissioned and enlisted rank receive promotions to Warrant Officer. The pay they receive for this position is based on their commission rating that is generally higher than that of their real star. When they reach higher levels of the command like Colonel both commissioned and enlisted officers are entitled to advancement to the rank of Colonel. After an upgrade to a Colonel, all officers commissioned are eligible for general promotion. For example, those who’ve previously been promoted to General are qualified to be promoted to Vice Captain or Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties rise  every two years. You have to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to an specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. The people who have any of these pay grade specializations can apply to become surgical technician, or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the minimum number or years in service, and completed the required level of promotion.
