An employment cost index establishes that U.S. military pay scale called The Allowable Rate. The index is found by looking at the requirements for enlisted employees or permanent employees, as well as temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty soldiers. After considering these factors The rate is then adjusted to give a percentage that takes into account the strength requirements of each group in order to guarantee a sufficient workforce. This method is used to determine a basic military salary that is then used in each branch.

The U.S army has its own ranking method in operation. Its ranks are formulated from the rank of First Lieutenant and above and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants (colonels), lieutenants and majors. In the army, three levels are ranked from highest to lowest within the command chain. They are known as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The pay scale that is used by the army is the First Major First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and other ranks. These pay scales rank people in various sectors of service in different branches in the military. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  within The Marine Corps will be considered Officers in Reserve or Officers Regular. While those with higher rank will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, those employed in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits, and those in the Navy will be considered Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level in the pay scale for military personnel is called the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this step is known as the ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and will be accountable for all of the military and the entire staff. As a Colonel it is also possible to earn the most pay per day. As you progress, you can expect to receive the most number of paid days of annual vacation.

Pay rises at this point are based on the military index of cost of employment. This allows you to adjust for the inflation of the cost of living. When an area has one with a high cost index, the costs of living are expected to be more expensive than when the index is less. This results in an increase in the salary of military personnel who have high educational qualifications and who have experienced similar promotions and rises as those who are in lower pay grades. Promotions in lower pay grades are not given a raise.

Officers who are commissioning and enlisted receive the opportunity to be promoted to Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid with this title is determined by their commission rating and is typically above the level of their actual star. When they reach higher levels of the command like Colonel both enlisted and commissioned officers are entitled to being promoted to Colonel. After an upgrade to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned will be eligible for general promotion. For example, those who’ve previously been promoted to a General are qualified for promotion to Vice Captain or Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties rise at least every 2 years. You must be among the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to get promoted to a Specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these pay levels can apply to become surgical technician or Medical Assistant, once they’ve reached the required number or years in service, and have attained the necessary promotion level.
