An index of cost of employment establishes this U.S. military pay scale known as the Allowable Rate. The index is calculated using the demand for enlisted troops, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty military personnel. After taking into account these factors to determine the appropriate rate, it is adjusted to give a rate that assumes the strength requirements of each group to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used in order to fix a basic rate of military pay that is later applied in every branch.

It is the U.S army has its rank procedure in force. The ranks are decided by the First Lieutenant or above and include officers like Colonels, lieutenants, sergeants, and majors. In the army, there are three levels placed from top to bottom in the chain of command. They are called the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale that is utilized in the army is called the First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and so on. This is a way of grading people across various specialties within the different wings in the military. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  in military units like the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. For those who are higher-ranked, they are classified as Specialists or Officers Special. Furthermore, those working in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those in the Navy will be regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step up the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this rank is the ” Colonel”. If you are a Colonel, you become a General and will have responsibility for all military personnel and the whole staff. As a Colonel you’ll also receive the highest pay per day. At higher levels, you are entitled to a number of days of paid holidays per year.

Pay rises at this point are in accordance with the military’s cost index for employment. The salary they earn for this position is based on their actual commission ratings which is usually greater than the grade of their real star. At higher levels of leadership including Colonel, both commissioned and enlisted officers are entitled to an upgrade to Colonel. After a promotion to Colonel, all officers commissioned will be eligible for general promotion. That means, those who’ve before been promoted as a General are eligible to receive a promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.

The pay increases for Specialties increases in every couple of years. You must be in the top twenty percent of your enlistment class to qualify for an advanced pay grade. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Individuals who hold any of these specialty pay grades can apply to become surgical technician or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the minimum number in years served and reached the minimum level for promotion.
