The next level up in the pay scale of the military is called the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost rank is the ” Colonel”. When you attain the rank of Colonel, it means that you will rank as a General and be responsible for all military personnel and the entire staff. As a Colonel you’ll also earn the most amounts of money per day. At higher levels, are entitled to a number of days of paid vacation per month.
Pay increments at this level are determined by the military cost of living index. This allows you to reflect the increasing of living expenses. If a location has one with a high cost index, the cost of living is likely to be significantly higher than when the index is lower. This will result in an increase of the salaries of military personnel who are highly educated and were promoted and received pay increases that are comparable to those in lower pay grades. For those who have promotions in positions below their pay grade have no pay increase.
Officers who hold both a an enlisted and commissioned rank get an upgrade to Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid for this position is based on their commission rating and is typically above the grade of their current star. At higher levels of command that include Colonels, both commissioned and enlisted officers can receive the rank of Colonel. After an upgrade to a Colonel, all officers who are commissioned are eligible for general promotion. Therefore, those who have before been promoted as General are eligible for a promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.
Finally, the increases in pay for Specialties go up twice a year. You need to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to be promoted to a Specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these specialty paygrades can apply to become a surgical technician or Medical Assistant, once they’ve reached the required number or years in service, and have reached the appropriate promotion level.
