An index of cost of employment establishes how much the U.S. military pay scale known as“allowable” Rate. The index is determined by analyzing the demand for enlisted troops, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty personnel. After considering these parameters it is then adjusted in order to produce a figure that assumes the strength requirements for each group to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used in order to create a basic military wage that is used by every branch.

The U.S army has its rank process in place. The ranks are determined from the rank of First Lieutenant and higher and comprise officers such as Lieutenants, Colonels, sergeants, and majors. Within the army, three levels are placed from top to bottom in the chain of command. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale employed by the army is the First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and then on. This ranks people in different specialties within the various branches in the military. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  in those in the Marine Corps will be considered Officers Reserved or Officers Regular. In contrast, upper-ranked individuals are classified as Specialists or Officers Special. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits, and those who are in the Navy are classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next stage in the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost scale is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. If you are a Colonel, you will be a general and will be in charge of all military personnel and the whole staff. At this rank you’ll also receive the most pay per day. At higher levels, will be able to enjoy the most number of days of paid leave per month.

Pay increases at this level are dependent on the military’s employment cost index. This is a method to accommodate for the increase of living expenses. When an area has an index of high value, the cost of living is predicted to be much higher than when the cost Index is not high. This will result in an increase of the pay for military members who are educated and have who have experienced similar promotions and raises similar to those of lower pay grades. People who are promoted to areas below their paygrade receive no additional pay.

Officers with an enlisted and commissioned rank get a promotion to a Warrant Officer. The pay they receive as a Warrant Officer is determined by their actual commission score that is generally higher than the grade of their current star. At higher levels of leadership like Colonel both commissioned and enlisted officers will be eligible for advancement to the rank of Colonel. After a promotion to Colonel, all commissioned officers can apply for general promotions. Therefore, those who have earlier been promoted to General will be eligible to receive a promotion to Vice Captain or a Major.

Also, the increments in pay for Specialties are increased  every two years. You need to be in the top twenty percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to the pay grade of Specialized. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Individuals who hold any of these specialty paygrades can apply to become a surgical technician, or Medical Assistant once they have reached the required number or years in service, and reached the required promotion level.
