U.S. military pay scales are used as a primary measurement tool for determining personnel compensation. Each of these branches has particular rules and regulations that determine its pay scale. This includes bonuses as well as special pay considerations for seniority.

The index for employment costs establishes this U.S. military pay scale called“allowable” Rate. The index is calculated by looking at the need for enlisted personnel permanently, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty soldiers. After analyzing these variables, the rate is adjusted to create a figure that considers the strength requirements of each of these groups to guarantee an adequate workforce. This is the method used to create a basic military wage that is later applied in every branch.

It is the U.S army has its own ranking method in operation. Its ranks are established through the first lieutenant and up and include officers like Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels, and majors. In the army, three levels are in order from highest to lowest at the bottom of the rank chain. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized by the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and other ranks. This is a way of grading people across various specialties within the various branches that comprise the Army. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  within those in the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. For those who are higher-ranked, they are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Additionally, those who are in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those in the Navy are classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level up in the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this rung is known as“Colonel” ” Colonel”. When you attain the rank of Colonel, it means that you will rank as a General and have the responsibility for the entire military as well as the entire staff. At this level, you will also receive the most pay per day. If you are promoted to higher levels, you will be able to enjoy an increased number of paid days of annual vacation.

Pay increases at this level are calculated based on the army cost of living index. This is an attempt to account for the rising in living expenses. If an area has a high index, the cost of living is likely to be higher than when the index is less. This will result in an increase of the salary of military personnel who are educated and have experienced similar promotions and pay increases that are comparable to those in lower pay levels. Promotions in areas below their paygrade receive no increase.

Officers that are both commissioning and enlisted receive an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid at this rank is based on their commission rating which is usually higher than the actual star. In higher ranks of command that include Colonels, both commissioned and enlisted officers are entitled to being promoted to Colonel. When they are upgraded to Colonel, all commissioned officers will qualify for general promotion. Thus, those who have already been elevated to General will be eligible to receive a promotion to Vice Captain or a Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties are increased in every couple of years. It is necessary to be in the top 20 percent of your class to qualify for an advanced pay grade. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these pay grades may apply to become a surgical technician or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the required number of years of service and reached the required promotion level.
