An employment cost index establishes how much the U.S. military pay scale known as The Allowable Rate. The index is determined by studying the demand for enlisted troops, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty military personnel. After analyzing these elements, the rate is adjusted to give a rate that will be based on the needs for each group to ensure an adequate workforce. This technique is used to fix a basic rate of military pay that is later applied in each branch.

It is the U.S army has a ranking method in operation. The ranks are decided with the help of First Lieutenant, and beyond and comprise officers such as Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels, and majors. In the army, three levels are ranked from highest to lowest in the chain of command. They are called the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized within the army are the First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and others. These pay scales rank people in various specialties within the different wings that comprise the Army. For example, lower-ranked individuals within military units like the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. While those with higher rank are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Furthermore, those working in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy will be classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level up in the military pay scale is called the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this scale is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will rank as a General and be responsible for the entire military as well as the entire staff. In this position you’ll also earn the highest amount of pay per day. As you progress, you are entitled to the most number of paid days of time off per calendar month.

Pay rises at this point are in accordance with the military’s index of cost of employment. This is a method to accommodate for the increase of the cost of living. When an area is characterized by a high index, the cost of living is expected to be greater than when the cost index is low. This will result in an increase of the salary of military personnel with a higher education level and were promoted and received pay increments that are similar to those in lower paygrades. Promotions in positions below their pay grade get no raise.

Officers with commissioning and enlisted receive an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The salary they earn in this grade is determined by their commission rating which is usually greater than the grade of their current star. In higher ranks of command, such as Colonel, both enlisted and commissioned officers can be eligible for an upgrade to Colonel. After an upgrade to Colonel, all commissioned officers are eligible for general promotions. So, officers who have already been elevated to a General will be eligible for promotions to a Vice Captain or Major.

Also, the increments in pay for Specialties go up in every couple of years. You must be in the top 20 percent of your class in order to earn an advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. The people who have any of these specialty pay grades are eligible to apply for the position of surgeon technician or Medical Assistant when they’ve reached the minimum number or years in service, and completed the required level of promotion.
