Each of these branches has specific rules that define its pay grade. This includes bonuses and other special pay considerations for seniority.

An employment cost index establishes this U.S. military pay scale known as“allowable” Rate. The index is calculated by studying the demand for enlisted personnel or permanent employees, as well as temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty military personnel. After taking into account these factors then the rate is adjusted to create a figure that considers the strength requirements of each of these groups to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used in order to create a basic military wage which is later used in every branch.

It is the U.S army has its ranking process in place. The ranks are decided through the first lieutenant and the upper levels and include officers like Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels and majors. In the army, three levels are classified from the highest to the lowest at the bottom of the rank chain. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale used in the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and others. This ranks people in different fields of service in the various branches that comprise the Army. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  within that section of the Marine Corps will be considered Officers placed in Reserve or Officers Regular. While those with higher rank will be classified as Specialists or Officers Special. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits, while those in the Navy will be classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level in the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost ladder is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. In the Colonel rank, you will be a general and will be in charge of all of the military and the whole staff. As a Colonel you’ll also earn the highest pay per day. At higher levels, you will also receive a number of paid days of annual vacation.

Pay increases at this level are based on the military cost of employment. This is a method to reflect the increasing of costs of living. When an area is characterized by high cost index, the costs of living are expected to be greater than when the index falls. This causes an increase in the salary of military personnel who have a high education and enjoyed similar promotions as well as pay increases similar to those at lower paygrades. Those who are promoted in jobs that are not in their pay grade get no raise.

Officers who have both an enlisted and commissioned rank get the opportunity to be promoted to Warrant Officer. The salary they earn at this rank is based on the actual rating of their commission that is generally higher than the grade of their current star. Higher levels of command like Colonel, both commissioned, and enlisted officers will be entitled to promotions to Colonel. When they are upgraded to Colonel, all officers commissioned will qualify for general promotion. That means, those who’ve previously been promoted to General are eligible to receive a promotion to Vice Captain or a Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties are increased approximately every two years. You must be among the top 20 percent of your class to be promoted to an Advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, as well as Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these specialty paygrades are eligible to apply for the position of surgical technician or Medical Assistant once they’ve completed the required number or years in service, and have achieved the level of promotion required.
