Pay increments at this level are dependent on the index of cost of employment. This is a method to keep track of the rate of inflation in living expenses. If an area has high cost index, the cost of living is likely to be greater than when the cost index is less. This leads to an increase in the wages of military personnel who have high educational qualifications and experienced similar promotions and pay rises as those who are in lower paygrades. The ones who are promoted in areas below their paygrade receive no increment.
Officers who are commissioning and enlisted receive an upgrade to Warrant Officer. The pay they receive as a Warrant Officer is determined by their actual commission rating, which is usually above the rank of their actual star. Higher ranks of command such as Colonel both commissioned, and enlisted officers are eligible for being promoted to Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned are eligible for general promotion. That means, those who’ve already been elevated to General are eligible to receive a promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.
In addition, the salaries for Specialties are increased twice a year. It is necessary to be in the top 20 percent of your class to gain promotion to the pay grade of Specialized. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist.
