When you attain the rank of Colonel, it means that you are a general and will have responsibility for all of the military and the entire staff. In this position you’ll also receive the most money per day. As you progress, you will also receive a number of paid days of leave per month.
Pay increments at this level are based on the military cost index for employment. This is a method to reflect the increasing of costs of living. When an area has one with a high cost index, the cost of living will be expected to be significantly higher than when the cost Index is not high. This can result in an increase in the wages of military personnel who have a high education and had similar promotions and rises as those who are in lower pay grades. Those who are promoted in the lower ranks of their pay receive no increase.
Officers who are both employed and enlisted are given an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid for this position is determined by the commission they receive which is usually greater than the grade of their current star. When they reach higher levels of the command, such as Colonel, both commissioned and enlisted officers will be entitled to an upgrade to Colonel. Following an upgrade to Colonel, all officers commissioned can apply for general promotions. So, officers who have already been elevated to General will be eligible for a promotion to Vice Captain or Major.
Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties go up at least every 2 years. You must be in the top twenty percent of your enlistment class to qualify for an advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. The people who have any of these specialty paygrades are eligible to apply for the position of surgeon technician or Medical Assistant, after they’ve completed the required number that have served in the past and achieved the level of promotion required.
