An employment cost index establishes how much the U.S. military pay scale known as“Allowable Rate. The index is determined through examining the demands for enlisted personnel permanently, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty military personnel. After analyzing these elements The rate is then adjusted to provide a rate that will be based on the needs for each group for a stable workforce. This method is employed to determine a basic military salary that is then used in each branch.

The U.S army has its own ranking system in place. The ranks are decided through the first lieutenant and up and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants (colonels), lieutenants, and majors. In the army, three levels are listed from the top to the lowest in the chain of command. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The pay scale that is used in the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and the list goes on. This ranks the people working in different categories of service within the various wings of the army. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  within The Marine Corps will be considered Officers in Reserve or Officers Regular. While those with higher rank are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those who are in the Navy will be designated as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step up the pay scale for military personnel is called the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost rank is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and have the responsibility for your entire army and entire staff. At this level, you will also receive the highest pay per day. At higher levels, will be able to enjoy a number of days of paid holiday per month.

Pay increments at this level are dependent on the employment cost index. This is a reason for an increase the wages of military personnel who have a high education and had similar promotions and increments that are similar to those in lower paygrades. For those who have promotions in positions below their pay grade receive no increment.

Officers that are both an enlisted and commissioned rank get an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid in this grade is determined by the actual rating of their commission which is usually higher than that of their real star. When they reach higher levels of the command including Colonel, both commissioned, and enlisted officers are eligible for promotions to Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned can be promoted to general. So, officers who have already been elevated to General will be eligible for promotions to a Vice Captain or Major.

Additionally, the salary increases for Specialties increases  every two years. It is necessary to be among the top 20 percent of your class to gain promotion to the pay grade of Specialized. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist as well as Information Technology Specialist. If you have one of these specialty pay grades can apply to become a Surgical Technician, or a Medical Assistant, after they’ve had the number in years served and have reached the appropriate promotion level.
