Pay increases at this point are based on the military cost of living index. This is a way to account for the rising in living expenses. If an area has an index of high value, the cost of living is likely to be significantly higher than when the cost index falls. This results in an increase in the wages of military personnel who are highly educated and were promoted and received pay rises as those who are in lower pay levels. For those who have promotions in posts below their pay grade have no pay increase.

Officers who have both commissioned and enlisted rank receive an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The pay they receive at this rank is based on their actual commission rating that is typically higher than that of their real star. Higher ranks of command such as Colonel both commissioned and enlisted officers can be eligible for being promoted to Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned are eligible for general promotions. Therefore, those who have already been elevated to General are eligible for a promotion to a Vice Captain or Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties rise  every two years. It is necessary to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to qualify for an Advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist as well as Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these pay grades are eligible to apply for the position of surgical technician or Medical Assistant, after they have reached the required number of years of service and completed the required level of promotion.
