U.S. military pay scales are used as a primary instrument for measuring personnel pay. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps are the branches which utilize the scale of pay used by military personnel. Each of these branches has specific regulations that determine its pay grade. These include bonuses and compensation for seniority.
An index of the cost of employment determines this U.S. military pay scale known as the Allowable Rate. The index is calculated by studying the demand for enlisted personnel permanently, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees for 100 active duty personnel. In the Colonel rank, you will rank as a General and will oversee all of the military and the entire staff. As a Colonel, you will also receive the highest amount of pay per day. In higher ranks, you will also receive an increased number of paid days of holidays per year.
Pay rises at this point are in accordance with the military’s index of cost of employment. This is a way to accommodate for the increase of costs of living. In areas with one with a high cost index, the cost of living will be expected to be greater than when the index is low. This results in an increase in the salary of military personnel who are highly educated and who have experienced similar promotions and increases similar to those at lower pay levels. The ones who are promoted in jobs that are not in their pay grade receive no increase.
Officers with in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid in this grade is based on their actual commission rating which is usually higher than the grade of their current star. In higher ranks of command including Colonel, both commissioned and enlisted officers are eligible for promotions to Colonel. After a promotion to Colonel, all commissioned officers are eligible for general promotions. That means, those who’ve before been promoted as a General will be qualified for promotion to a Vice Captain or Major.
Also, the increments in pay for Specialties will increase in every couple of years. It is necessary to be in the top twenty percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to the Specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. If you have one of these pay levels are eligible to apply for the position of surgical technician or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the minimum number or years in service, and reached the required promotion level.
