U.S. military pay scales serve as a principal assessment tool to calculate personnel compensation. Army, Navy, Air Force as well as Marine Corps are the branches using the military pay scale. Each of these branches have specific laws that govern its pay grade. These include bonuses and compensation for seniority.

An index of the cost of employment determines an U.S. military pay scale called“Allowed” Rate. The index is calculated using the demand for enlisted personnel as well as permanent and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty soldiers. When considering these aspects to determine the appropriate rate, it is adjusted to give a rate that takes into account the strength requirements of each of these groups to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used to define a minimum military pay which is later used in each branch.

The U.S army has its ranking system in place. Its ranks are formulated through the first lieutenant and higher and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants (colonels), lieutenants and majors. Within the army, there are three levels placed from top to bottom within the command chain. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized by the army is First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and then on. These pay scales rank people in various sectors of service in different wings that comprise the Army. For example, lower-ranked individuals within those in the Marine Corps will be considered Officers placed in Reserve or Officers Regular. On the other hand, those with higher ranks will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, individuals in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those in the Navy are regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level in the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost step is known as“Colonel” ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you are a general and be responsible for your entire army and whole staff. At this rank, you will also receive the most salary per day. Higher levels will be able to enjoy the most number of paid days of holiday per month.

Pay increases at this rate are in accordance with the military’s employment cost index. This is a method to accommodate for the increase of living expenses. If an area has high cost index, the costs of living are expected to be greater than when the cost index is less. This leads to an increase in the pay for military members who have a high education and enjoyed similar promotions as well as pay increases similar to those at lower paygrades. Those who are promoted in the lower ranks of their pay receive no increment.

Officers that are both in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive promotions to Warrant Officer. The pay they receive at this rank is based on their actual commission ratings, which is usually above the rank of their actual star. Higher levels of command like Colonel, both commissioned, and enlisted officers will be entitled to a promotion to a Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all commissioned officers will qualify for general promotion. That means, those who’ve before been promoted as a General will be capable of being promoted to Vice Captain or a Major.

The pay increases for Specialties increase  every two years. You need to be in the top twenty percent of your class to gain promotion to the Specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these specialty paygrades can apply to become a surgical technician or Medical Assistant after they have reached the required number that have served in the past and have achieved the level of promotion required.
