An employment cost index determines an U.S. military pay scale called The Allowable Rate. The index is found using the requirements for enlisted employees in permanent and permanent personnel as well as temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty military personnel. After considering these factors to determine the appropriate rate, it is adjusted to create a figure that relies on the strength requirements of each group to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used to determine a basic military salary which is later used in each branch.

They are called the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale that is utilized within the army is the First Major First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and so on. These pay scales rank people in various categories of service within the various wings in the military. For instance, those with lower ranks within that section of the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. In contrast, upper-ranked individuals will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, individuals in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy will be considered Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.
