Pay increments at this level are dependent on the military’s cost of labor index. This is an attempt to reflect the increasing in living expenses. If an area has an index that is high, the costs of living are expected to be higher than when the cost index falls. This leads to an increase in the salary of military personnel who are highly educated and who have experienced similar promotions and increases similar to those at lower paygrades. Personnel who are promoted to posts below their pay grade receive no increase.
Officers who are commissioned and enlisted rank receive an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid with this title is determined by their actual commission rating and is typically above the grade of their current star. In higher ranks of command including Colonel, both commissioned and enlisted officers can receive a promotion to a Colonel. When they are upgraded to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned can apply for general promotions. This means that those who’ve before been promoted as a General will be qualified for promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.
The pay increases for Specialties will increase in every couple of years. You need to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to qualify for a Specialized pay grade. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, as well as Information Technology Specialist.
