The index is determined by looking at the demands for enlisted personnel as well as permanent personnel and temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty personnel. After analyzing these elements The rate is then adjusted to provide a rate that assumes the strength requirements of each group to guarantee an adequate workforce. It is the U.S army has a ranking process in place. Its ranks are established in the hands of the First Lieutenant and the upper levels and comprise officers such as Lieutenants, Colonels, sergeants, and majors. In the army, there are three levels in order from highest to lowest in the chain of command. They are called the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale that is utilized by the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and so on. These pay scales rank people in various fields of service in the various branches that comprise the Army. For instance, those with lower ranks within their respective divisions of the Marine Corps will be considered Officers Placed In Reserve, or Officers Regular. For those who are higher-ranked, they are classified as Specialists or Officers Special. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits, while those in the Navy will be regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.
