An employment cost index establishes this U.S. military pay scale called“Allowed” Rate. The index is calculated using the demand for enlisted personnel or permanent employees, as well as temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty personnel. When considering these aspects then the rate is adjusted to create a figure that assumes the strength requirements for each group to ensure a sufficient workforce. This method is used in order to fix a basic rate of military pay that is then applied to each branch.

It is the U.S army has its own ranking method in operation. Its ranks are set at the level of the First Lieutenant and the upper levels and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants and Colonels and majors. Within the army, three levels are ordered from the top to the bottom in the chain of command. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The second pay scale used within the army are the First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and other ranks. These pay scales rank people in various sectors of service in various wings in the military. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  in those in the Marine Corps will be considered Officers placed in Reserve or Officers Regular. For those who are higher-ranked, they are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Furthermore, those working in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those who are in the Navy will be considered Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level in the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this scale is the ” Colonel”. In the Colonel rank, you are a general and will be in charge of the entire military and entire staff. At this rank, you will also receive the most salary per day. If you are promoted to higher levels, you will be able to enjoy the most number of paid days of vacation per month.

Pay increases at this point are in accordance with the military’s cost of living index. This is a method to reflect the increasing of living costs. When a region has high cost index, the cost of living is likely to be higher than when the index falls. This causes an increase in the compensation of military members who have a high education and had similar promotions and increases similar to those at lower pay grades. Promotions in jobs that are not in their pay grade receive no increment.

Officers who are in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid at this rank is determined by the actual rating of their commission that is typically higher than the grade of their real star. In higher ranks of command, such as Colonel, both commissioned, and enlisted officers are entitled to advancement to the rank of Colonel. After a promotion to Colonel, all officers commissioned are eligible for general promotion. For example, those who’ve had a previous promotion to General will be eligible for a promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties are increased approximately every two years. It is necessary to be among the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to an specialized pay grade. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these specialties pay grades are eligible to apply for the position of surgeon technician or Medical Assistant once they’ve reached the minimum number to years working and reached the minimum level for promotion.
