Military Pay Rates

Military Pay Rates – The U.S. Military PayScale is the basic salary scale used by all personnel in the armed forces. U.S. military pay scales are used as a major measurement tool for determining personnel pay. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps are the branches using the pay scales used by the military. Each branch has specific rules that define its pay scale. This includes bonuses and other special compensation for seniority.

An employment cost index determines this U.S. military pay scale known as the Allowable Rate. The index is calculated using the requirements for enlisted employees as well as permanent personnel and temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty soldiers. After considering these factors and adjusting the rate so that it assumes the strength requirements for each group in order to guarantee a sufficient workforce. This process is used to define a minimum military pay that is then applied to each branch.

The U.S army has its ranking established system. The ranks are decided with the help of First Lieutenant and up and include officers like Colonels, lieutenants, sergeants and majors. In the army, three levels are placed from top to bottom within the command chain. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized in the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and the list goes on. This ranks people in different categories of service within the various wings in the military. For example, the lower-ranking individual’s  in The Marine Corps will be considered Officers Reserved or Officers Regular. In contrast, upper-ranked individuals will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy will be designated as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step up the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this ladder is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. As a Colonel, become a General and will oversee the entire military as well as the entire staff. At this rank, you will also receive the most amounts of money per day. At higher levels, you will also receive a number of paid days of leave per month.

Pay increments at this level are calculated based on the army cost index for employment. This allows you to adjust for the inflation of living costs. If a location has one with a high cost index, the cost of living will be expected to be significantly higher than when the index is lower. This can result in an increase in the pay for military members who have high educational qualifications and who have experienced similar promotions and raises similar to those of lower pay levels. Those who are promoted in lower pay grades get no raise.

Officers who are both in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive an upgrade to Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid in this grade is based on the commission they receive which is usually greater than the grade of their current star. Higher levels of command that include Colonels, both commissioned and enlisted officers will be entitled to advancement to the rank of Colonel. After a promotion to Colonel, all officers commissioned are eligible for general promotion. This means that those who’ve already been elevated to a General are qualified for promotion to Vice Captain or Major.

In addition, the salaries for Specialties go up  every two years. You have to be in the top 20 percent of your class to get promoted to a Specialized pay grade. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these specialties pay grades are eligible to apply for the position of surgeon technician or Medical Assistant, once they’ve completed the required number to years working and have reached the minimum level for promotion.
