Military Pay Scale 1971 – The U.S. Military PayScale is the base salary scale for all members of the armed forces. U.S. military pay scales are used as a primary measure of personnel compensation. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps are the branches which utilize the pay scales used by the military. Each of these branches have specific provisions that determine its pay scale. These include bonuses and pay considerations for seniority.
An employment cost index determines what is known as the U.S. military pay scale called the Allowable Rate. The index is calculated by studying the demand for enlisted troops as well as permanent personnel and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty personnel. When considering these aspects it is then adjusted to give a percentage that assumes the strength requirements of each group to ensure that there is a sufficient number of workers. This method is used in order to create a basic military wage that is then used in every branch.
It is the U.S army has its ranking system in place. The ranks are decided from the rank of First Lieutenant or above and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants and Colonels, and majors. Within the army, three levels are in order from highest to lowest on the hierarchy of commands. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.
The other pay scale used in the army is First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and so on. This ranks the people working in different areas of service within the different wings that comprise the Army. For example, individuals with lower rank within their respective divisions of the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. The higher-ranked ones are classified as Specialists or Officers Special. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those who are in the Navy are regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.
The next stage in the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this level is called the ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you become a General and will oversee the entire military and whole staff. At this rank you’ll also earn the most money per day. As you progress, you are entitled to a number of of paid leave per month.
Pay rises at this point are in accordance with the military’s cost of employment. This is an attempt to adjust for the inflation of living expenses. When an area has a high index, the costs of living are expected to be more expensive than when the cost index is low. This will result in an increase of the pay for military members who have a high education and had similar promotions and rises as those who are in lower paygrades. Those who are promoted in jobs that are not in their pay grade receive no increment.
Officers that are both in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive a promotion to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid for this position is based on their actual commission ratings which is usually greater than the rank of their actual star. When they reach higher levels of the command such as Colonel both enlisted and commissioned officers are entitled to a promotion to a Colonel. After an upgrade to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned can be promoted to general. That means, those who’ve already been elevated to a General will be eligible to receive a promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.
In addition, the salaries for Specialties go up every two years. It is necessary to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to get promoted to the pay grade of Specialized. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these pay grade specializations can apply to become a surgical technician or Medical Assistant after they’ve had the number to years working and attained the necessary promotion level.
