People who are promoted to positions below their pay grade get no raise.
Officers that are both an enlisted and commissioned rank get an increase to the rank of Warrant Officer. The salary they earn when they reach this level is determined by their commission rating that is generally higher than the grade of their real star. At higher levels of leadership that include Colonels, both commissioned, and enlisted officers are eligible for advancement to the rank of Colonel. After an upgrade to Colonel, all commissioned officers can be promoted to general. Thus, those who have already been elevated to General will be eligible for promotions to Vice Captain or a Major.
The pay increases for Specialties rise every two years. It is necessary to be among the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to a Specialized pay grade. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, as well as Information Technology Specialist.
