This method is employed to fix a basic rate of military pay which is then utilized in every branch.
The U.S army has a ranking established system. The ranks are decided through the first lieutenant and up and comprise officers such as Lieutenants, Colonels, sergeants and majors. Within the army, there are three levels ranked from highest to lowest within the command chain. They are referred to as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The pay scale ranks individuals across different sectors of service in different branches that comprise the Army. For instance, those with lower ranks in that section of the Marine Corps will be considered officers placed in reserve or Officers Regular. In contrast, upper-ranked individuals are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those who are in the Navy are classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.
The next step up the pay scale for military personnel is called the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this ladder is“Colonel” ” Colonel”. Pay increases at this rate are calculated based on the army employment cost index. This is an attempt to accommodate for the increase in living expenses. When a region has high cost index, the cost of living is anticipated to be more expensive than when the cost index is lower. This causes an increase in the compensation of military members who have high educational qualifications and were promoted and received pay increases similar to those at lower paygrades. The ones who are promoted in positions below their pay grade receive no additional pay.
Officers with commissioned and enlisted rank receive an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid as a Warrant Officer is based on their actual commission rating and is typically above the actual star. Higher levels of command that include Colonels, both enlisted and commissioned officers will be entitled to the rank of Colonel. When they are upgraded to Colonel, all officers commissioned can be promoted to general. That means, those who’ve earlier been promoted to a General are capable of being promoted to a Vice Captain or a Major.
Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties increases at least every 2 years. It is necessary to be in the top twenty percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to a Specialized pay grade.
