U.S. military pay scales are used as the main assessment tool to calculate personnel compensation. Army, Navy, Air Force as well as Marine Corps are the branches that use the pay scales used by the military. Each branch has specific laws that govern its pay grade. This includes bonuses as well as special pay consideration for seniority.

Military Pay Vs Civilian Pay

An index of cost of employment establishes the U.S. military pay scale known as The Allowable Rate. The index is determined through the analysis of the demand for enlisted personnel as well as permanent and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty personnel. After taking into account these factors to determine the appropriate rate, it is adjusted to create a figure that assumes the strength requirements of each of these groups in order to guarantee a sufficient workforce. This method is employed to create a basic military wage that is then used in each branch.

It is the U.S army has its own ranking process in place. Its ranks are established at the level of the First Lieutenant, and beyond and comprise officers such as sergeants, lieutenants or Colonels, and majors. Within the army, there are three levels classified from the highest to the lowest within the command chain. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale used in the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant and so on. This ranks people in different sectors of service in different wings of the army. For instance, those with lower ranks within The Marine Corps will be considered Officers Reserved or Officers Regular. While those with higher rank are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Additionally, those who are in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits and those in the Navy are regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next stage in the pay scale of the military is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost step is known as“Colonel” ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and will be in charge of all military personnel and the entire staff. As a Colonel you’ll also be able to receive the most pay per day. As you progress, you are entitled to the most number of paid days of leave per month.

Pay increments at this level are dependent on the military’s cost of employment. This allows you to reflect the increasing of living costs. When an area is characterized by an index that is high, the cost of living is predicted to be higher than when the index falls. This can result in an increase in the wages of military personnel who are highly educated . They have experienced similar promotions and pay rises as those who are in lower pay levels. Promotions in posts below their pay grade get no raise.

Officers who are an enlisted and commissioned rank get an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The pay they receive at this rank is determined by their actual commission rating which is usually higher than the rank of their actual star. Higher levels of command such as Colonel both commissioned and enlisted officers can be eligible for an upgrade to Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers commissioned are eligible for general promotion. So, officers who have previously been promoted to a General will be eligible to receive a promotion to a Vice Captain or Major.

Also, the increments in pay for Specialties go up  every two years. You must be in the top twenty percent of your class in order to earn the pay grade of Specialized. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. If you have one of these specialties pay grades could apply to be a surgical technician, or Medical Assistant, once they’ve completed the required number that have served in the past and reached the appropriate promotion level.
