The next step up the pay scale of the military is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost scale is the ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be a general and will be accountable for the entire military as well as the whole staff. At this rank, you will also receive the highest pay per day. If you are promoted to higher levels, you will also receive a number of of paid annual vacation.
Pay increases at this point are dependent on the military’s cost of labor index. This is a way to accommodate for the increase of costs of living. When an area has an index that is high, the cost of living is likely to be much higher than when the cost index falls. This can result in an increase in the wages of military personnel who are educated and have received similar promotions and raises similar to those of lower paygrades. Those who are promoted in lower pay grades have no pay increase.
Officers who are both commissioned and enlisted rank receive promotions to Warrant Officer. The pay they receive as a Warrant Officer is determined by their actual commission ratings which is usually higher than the level of their actual star. In higher ranks of command that include Colonels, both commissioned, and enlisted officers will be entitled to being promoted to Colonel. Following an upgrade to Colonel, all officers commissioned can apply for general promotions. This means that those who’ve already been elevated to General are qualified for promotion to a Vice Captain or a Major.
Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties increases in every couple of years. You must be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to a Specialized pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. People who have any of these pay grade specializations can apply to become a surgeon technician or Medical Assistant once they’ve completed the required number that have served in the past and have reached the required promotion level.
