Each branch has specific laws that govern its pay scale. These include bonuses and pay considerations for seniority.

An index of cost of employment establishes this U.S. military pay scale known as“the Allowable Rate. The index is determined by looking at the demand for enlisted troops or permanent employees, as well as temporary military retirees per 100 active duty personnel. After analyzing these elements, the rate is adjusted to create a figure that considers the strength requirements of each group to ensure that there is a sufficient number of workers. This process is used to create a basic military wage that is later applied in each branch.

It is the U.S army has its ranking process in place. Its ranks are set by the First Lieutenant or above and include officers like Colonels, lieutenants, sergeants and majors. In the army, three levels are in order from highest to lowest in the chain of command. They are known as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale employed by the army is the First Major First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and then on. The pay scale ranks individuals across different categories of service within the various branches in the military. For example, lower-ranked individuals in that section of the Marine Corps will be considered Officers Placed In Reserve, or Officers Regular. However, higher-ranking individuals will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits and those in the Navy will be designated as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next level up in the military pay scale is called the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this level is called the ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and will have responsibility for the entire military as well as the entire staff. As a Colonel you also get the most pay per day. If you are promoted to higher levels, you can expect to receive a number of days of paid time off per calendar month.

Pay increases at this point are in accordance with the military’s cost of labor index. This is an attempt to keep track of the rate of inflation of costs of living. If a location has a high index, the cost of living will be expected to be much more than when the index falls. This will result in an increase of the amount of pay paid to military personnel who have a high education and had similar promotions and increments that are similar to those in lower pay levels. Personnel who are promoted to lower pay grades have no pay increase.

Officers who hold both a commissioned and enlisted rank receive the opportunity to be promoted to Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid in this grade is based on their actual commission rating and is typically above the actual star. In higher ranks of command such as Colonel both enlisted and commissioned officers can receive advancement to the rank of Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers commissioned are eligible for general promotions. For example, those who’ve earlier been promoted to a General will be capable of being promoted to a Vice Captain or Major.

Finally, the increases in pay for Specialties are increased at least every 2 years. You have to be among the top 20 percent of your class to qualify for the Specialized pay grade. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these specialty paygrades could apply to be a surgeon technician or Medical Assistant, once they’ve completed the required number of years of service and have reached the required promotion level.
