The next rung on the military pay scale is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this scale is the ” Colonel”. When you attain the rank of Colonel, it means that you become a General and will have responsibility for the entire military and the entire staff. In this position, you will also receive the most pay per day. Higher levels are entitled to the most number of days of paid annual vacation.
Pay rises at this point are calculated based on the army employment cost index. This is a way to take into account the rise of living expenses. If an area has one with a high cost index, the costs of living are expected to be much higher than when the of living index is very low. This leads to an increase in the pay for military members who are educated and have were promoted and received pay raises similar to those of lower pay grades. Those who are promoted in jobs that are not in their pay grade have no pay increase.
Officers who have both engaged and commissioned receive an upgrade to Warrant Officer. The pay they receive at this rank is based on their actual commission rating, which is usually above the rank of their actual star. Higher ranks of command that include Colonels, both commissioned and enlisted officers can be eligible for a promotion to a Colonel. Following an upgrade to Colonel, all commissioned officers can apply for general promotions. Therefore, those who have already been elevated to General are eligible for promotions to Vice Captain or a Major.
Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties increase every two years. It is necessary to be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to the pay grade of Specialized. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these specialty paygrades are eligible to apply for the position of surgical technician, or Medical Assistant, after they’ve had the number hours of work experience and have completed the required level of promotion.
