U.S. military pay scales are used as the main measurement tool for determining personnel compensation. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps are the branches which use the military pay scale. Each of these branches has specific laws that govern its pay grade. This includes bonuses and other special compensation for seniority.
An index of the cost of employment determines an U.S. military pay scale called“Allowed” Rate. The index is calculated by analyzing the demand for enlisted personnel, permanent personnel, and temporary military retirees for 100 active duty personnel. After taking into account these factors, the rate is adjusted to provide a rate that relies on the strength requirements of each of these groups to ensure that there is a sufficient number of workers. This method is used in order to fix a basic rate of military pay which is later used in each branch.
The U.S army has its ranking structure in place. Its ranks are set by the First Lieutenant and the upper levels and comprise officers such as Lieutenants, Colonels, sergeants and majors. In the army, there are three levels listed from the top to the lowest in the chain of command. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.
Another pay scale utilized within the army are the First Major First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and then on. It ranks individuals in various areas of service within the various wings of the army. For example, individuals with lower rank in those in the Marine Corps will be considered Officers Reserved or Officers Regular. The higher-ranked ones will be classified as Specialists or Officers Special. At Colonel rank, you will be a general and will oversee your entire army and entire staff. As a Colonel it is also possible to earn the most pay per day. Pay increases at this point are in accordance with the military’s index of cost of employment. This is a method to keep track of the rate of inflation of living costs. When an area has an index of high value, the cost of living is predicted to be greater than when the index is lower. This causes an increase in the pay for military members who have high educational qualifications and who have experienced similar promotions and increases that are comparable to those in lower pay grades. For those who have promotions in posts below their pay grade receive no additional pay.
Officers with engaged and commissioned receive a promotion to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid at this rank is based on the commission they receive that is generally higher than the grade of their current star. When they reach higher levels of the command including Colonel, both commissioned and enlisted officers will be entitled to being promoted to Colonel. Following an upgrade to Colonel, all officers commissioned can be promoted to general. That means, those who’ve had a previous promotion to General are eligible for a promotion to a Vice Captain or Major.
Also, the increments in pay for Specialties rise twice a year. You must be in the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to qualify for an Advanced pay grade. These pay grades include Technician, Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist as well as Information Technology Specialist. People who have any of these pay grade specializations can apply to become Surgical Technician, or a Medical Assistant, after they’ve completed the required number in years served and have achieved the level of promotion required.
