The next rung on the pay scale of the military is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost rank is the ” Colonel”. If you are a Colonel, you become a General and will be in charge of the entire military and the entire staff. As a Colonel, you will also receive the most amounts of money per day. Higher levels will also receive an increased number of paid days of annual vacation.
Pay rises at this point are based on the military employment cost index. This is a way to adjust for the inflation of costs of living. When an area has an index of high value, the cost of living is predicted to be significantly higher than when the Index is not high. This causes an increase in the pay for military members with a higher education level and experienced similar promotions and pay increases similar to those at lower pay grades. Those who are promoted in posts below their pay grade get no raise.
Officers that are both commissioning and enlisted receive a promotion to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid at this rank is based on their commission rating and is typically above the actual star. Higher levels of command including Colonel, both enlisted and commissioned officers can be eligible for being promoted to Colonel. After an upgrade to Colonel, all commissioned officers will qualify for general promotion. This means that those who’ve already been elevated to General will be qualified to be promoted to a Vice Captain or a Major.
The pay increases for Specialties go up at least every 2 years. You must be in the top 20 percent of your class to get promoted to the pay grade of Specialized. The pay grades are Technician Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. Anyone with one of these pay grade specializations could apply to be a surgical technician, or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the minimum number of years of service and have reached the minimum level for promotion.
