Each of these branches have specific provisions that determine its pay scale. This includes bonuses and special pay considerations for seniority.

An index of the cost of employment determines what is known as the U.S. military pay scale called the Allowable Rate. The index is found using the amount of enlisted members as well as permanent personnel and temporary military retirees for 100 active-duty military personnel. After analyzing these variables to determine the appropriate rate, it is adjusted to give a rate that takes into account the strength requirements of each of these groups to ensure a sufficient workforce. This is the method used to define a minimum military pay that is then applied to each branch.

The U.S army has a ranking method in operation. The ranks are determined by the First Lieutenant and higher and include officers like Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels and majors. Within the army, there are three levels ordered from the top to the bottom in the chain of command. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized by the army is First Major, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and the list goes on. This ranks the people working in different categories of service within the different branches in the military. For example, lower-ranked individuals within the Marine Corps will be considered Officers placed in Reserve or Officers Regular. The higher-ranked ones will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, those employed in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruiters and those who are in the Navy are regarded as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next rung on the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this step is known as“Colonel” ” Colonel”. At Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and be responsible for all military personnel and the entire staff. At this rank it is also possible to earn the highest pay per day. In higher ranks, you will receive the most number of days of paid holiday per month.

Pay rises at this point are calculated based on the army cost of living index. This is an attempt to accommodate for the increase of living costs. When an area has an index that is high, the cost of living is expected to be significantly higher than when the cost index is less. This will result in an increase of the compensation of military members who are educated and have who have experienced similar promotions and increments that are similar to those in lower pay grades. For those who have promotions in lower pay grades receive no increase.

Officers with commissioning and enlisted receive a promotion to a Warrant Officer. The pay they receive with this title is based on their actual commission rating which is usually greater than the actual star. At higher levels of leadership that include Colonels, both commissioned, and enlisted officers can receive being promoted to Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all commissioned officers are eligible for general promotion. Therefore, those who have had a previous promotion to General will be qualified to be promoted to Vice Captain or Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties will increase twice a year. You have to be among the top 20 percent of your class to gain promotion to an advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist, and Information Technology Specialist. The people who have any of these pay levels can apply to become surgeon technician or Medical Assistant when they’ve reached the required number of years of service and have achieved the level of promotion required.
