At Colonel rank, you become a General and will be accountable for all military personnel and the entire staff. In this position you’ll also receive the highest amount of pay per day. Pay increase at this level are determined by the military cost of employment. This allows you to reflect the increasing of costs of living. If a location has high cost index, the costs of living are expected to be greater than when the of living index is very low. This is a reason for an increase the pay for military members who are educated and have received similar promotions and increases that are comparable to those in lower pay levels. Promotions in jobs that are not in their pay grade are not given a raise.
Officers who have both in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive the opportunity to be promoted to Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid with this title is determined by the commission they receive and is typically above the actual star. In higher ranks of command such as Colonel both commissioned and enlisted officers will be entitled to promotions to Colonel. Following an upgrade to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned are eligible for general promotions. Thus, those who have before been promoted as General will be eligible to receive a promotion to Vice Captain or Major.
Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties go up every two years. You have to be among the top 20 percent of your enlistment class to gain promotion to the pay grade of Specialized.
