Each of these branches have specific provisions that determine its pay grade. This includes bonuses, as well as special pay considerations for seniority.

An employment cost index determines an U.S. military pay scale called the Allowable Rate. The index is found by looking at the demand for enlisted troops in permanent and permanent personnel as well as temporary military retirees for 100 active duty personnel. After taking into account these factors it is then adjusted to provide a rate that relies on the strength requirements for each group to ensure that there is a sufficient number of workers. This process is used to create a basic military wage that is then applied to each branch.

The U.S army has its rank structure in place. Its ranks are set through the first lieutenant or above and comprise officers such as Sergeants, lieutenants, Colonels, and majors. Within the army, there are three levels classified from the highest to the lowest at the bottom of the rank chain. They are known as “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

Another pay scale utilized within the army are the First Major First Lieutenant, First Lieutenant and then on. This is a way of grading people across various fields of service in the various wings in the military. For example, those who are lower-ranked within their respective divisions of the Marine Corps will be considered Officers Placed In Reserve, or Officers Regular. However, higher-ranking individuals are classified as Officers Special or Specialists. Also, those in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy are classified as Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step up the pay scale for military personnel is the ” Sergeant Major”. The topmost rank is the ” Colonel”. As a Colonel, will be promoted to General and will have responsibility for your entire army and entire staff. In this position you’ll also receive the most salary per day. In higher ranks, you will be able to enjoy an increased number of days of paid holidays per year.

Pay rises at this point are dependent on the military’s cost of employment. This is an attempt to keep track of the rate of inflation of the cost of living. When an area has an index that is high, then the cost of living is expected to be more expensive than when the cost index is low. This results in an increase in the salary of military personnel who are highly educated and who have experienced similar promotions and increases that are comparable to those in lower paygrades. Personnel who are promoted to areas below their paygrade get no raise.

Officers who have both an enlisted and commissioned rank get the opportunity to be promoted to Warrant Officer. The salary they earn with this title is determined by the actual rating of their commission that is typically higher than that of their real star. In higher ranks of command that include Colonels, both commissioned and enlisted officers will be entitled to advancement to the rank of Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all commissioned officers will be eligible for general promotion. Thus, those who have prior to that been upgraded to a General will be eligible for a promotion to Vice Captain or a Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties go up  every two years. You have to be in the top twenty percent of your class to qualify for an advanced pay grade. These pay grades include Technician Radio Technician Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. Those with any of these pay grade specializations can apply to become a surgical technician or Medical Assistant once they’ve reached the minimum number of years of service and have reached the minimum level for promotion.
