An index of cost of employment establishes the U.S. military pay scale called“Allowable Rate. The index is found by studying the need for enlisted personnel as well as permanent and temporary military retirees per 100 active-duty personnel. After analyzing these variables then the rate is adjusted in order to produce a figure that takes into account the strength requirements of each of these groups for a stable workforce. This process is used to determine a basic military salary that is later applied in each branch.

It is the U.S army has its ranking procedure in force. Its ranks are set in the hands of the First Lieutenant, and beyond and include officers like sergeants, lieutenants or Colonels and majors. Within the army, three levels are placed from top to bottom on the hierarchy of commands. They are referred to as the “major”, “first lieutenant,” and “second lieutenant”.

The other pay scale that is utilized within the army is the First Major First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and the list goes on. This ranks the people working in different fields of service in the different branches of the army. For instance, those with lower ranks within The Marine Corps will be considered Officers Placed In Reserve or Officers Regular. However, higher-ranking individuals will be classified as Officers Special or Specialists. In addition, individuals in the Air Force will be considered Officers Air Recruits. Likewise, those in the Navy will be considered Officers Navy or Officers Waterman.

The next step in the military pay scale is called the ” Sergeant Major”. At the top of this level is called the ” Colonel”. In the Colonel rank, you will be considered a General and will oversee your entire army and whole staff. At this rank it is also possible to earn the most salary per day. If you are promoted to higher levels, you are entitled to the most number of of paid holidays per year.

Pay increases at this rate are in accordance with the military’s cost index for employment. This is a way to adjust for the inflation of the cost of living. When an area is characterized by one with a high cost index, the cost of living is expected to be significantly higher than when the cost of living index is very low. This results in an increase in the compensation of military members who are educated and have enjoyed similar promotions as well as pay increases similar to those at lower pay levels. Those who are promoted in areas below their paygrade get no raise.

Officers who have both in the enlisted and commissioned ranks receive an advancement to a Warrant Officer. The amount they are paid at this rank is determined by their actual commission ratings that is typically higher than the level of their actual star. Higher ranks of command like Colonel both enlisted and commissioned officers will be eligible for the rank of Colonel. Once they have been upgraded to Colonel, all officers who are commissioned are eligible for general promotion. So, officers who have had a previous promotion to a General are eligible for a promotion to Vice Captain or Major.

Lastly, the pay increases for Specialties will increase  every two years. You need to be in the top 20 percent of your class to be promoted to an Advanced pay grade. The pay grades are Technician, Radio Technician, Computer Networking Specialist and Information Technology Specialist. If you have one of these pay grades can apply to become surgical technician, or Medical Assistant after they’ve reached the minimum number of years of service and reached the appropriate promotion level.
